Dr. Casandra Hernández-Reyes

Casandra started her scientific career as a food scientist at McGill University in Canada and Universidad Las Américas Puebla in Mexico, where she graduated in 2009. Afterwards, she decided to broaden her field of experience by studying a Master in Agrobiotechnology at the University of Gießen, Germany. During this time, she focused her research on the interaction between the human pathogen Salmonella typhimurium and plants under the supervision of Dr. Adam Schikora. In 2012, she received a fellowship from the Mexican Council for Science and Technology (CONACyT) to obtain her doctorate degree at the same university. Her project consisted in the study of N-acyl homoserine lactones produced by rhizobacteria to induce defense in different crop plants. In Freiburg, Casandra studies the role of a set of membrane nanodomain delimited receptor-like kinases in plant innate immunity.
